Why CA

Thank you for visiting our site. After nearly 15 years in legal recruitment, I came to the realisation that the traditional recruitment model is fundamentally broken. The focus is the transaction – getting a new member of staff to start their new job –  and the cost of that transaction. Recruitment Consultants are paid commission based on their billings. Internal recruiters are generally measured on ‘cost per hire’ (i.e. what proportion of hires can they make directly as opposed to spending money on agencies). Both internal and agency recruiters are measured on ‘fill time’, how long it takes to fill a vacancy. In fact, this model rewards both agency recruiters and internal recruiters who execute (whether intentionally or not) quick, bad hires. Most agency recruiters will know that a client with an unfussy/inaccurate recruitment process and/or a significant staff turnover is a goldmine and the current recruitment model discourages them from helping their clients improve. Many recruitment companies employ vast resourcing teams whose job is to persuade settled employees to consider other options, actively disrupting the markets they service and in more than a few instances, their own clients. Many of these resourcers will not actually be working on a live brief. At many of the key players in the legal recruitment market, the number of resourcers significantly exceeds the number of consultants they have servicing their clients’ live vacancies. The recruitment industry is the cause and the solution.

Value per hire

Virtually no-one is measuring value per hire and thus how to improve their average value per hire. How well do you understand what makes your best employees? What does good look like to you? Do you know where your best people were sourced and what their journey was both before they joined and during their time with you? Do you know why they joined you? Do you know their career aspirations?
